Robbins Construction Group tapped for Park Circle project

Charleston, S.C. – Robbins Construction Group, a full-service design-build construction firm focusing on site selection, preconstruction, and project management has been awarded the design and construction services for the Park Circle Community Center and new Inclusive Playground and ball field.

Robbins Construction Group will be partnering with Red Iron Architects, LLC and HLA, Inc. to provide full design and construction services for the project.

The project consists of demolition of the center of Park Circle and the design and construction of a new 16,600 square-foot community center, farmers market, and the highly anticipated inclusive playground and ball field.

The 55,000 square-foot playground will be North Charleston’s largest playground that every child will be able to enjoy, regardless of physical, emotional, or mental disabilities. This will be the largest of its kind in the tri-county area.

“We are proud and humbled to be selected to be an integral partner with the City of North Charleston to provide design and construction services for such a monumental project that will reshape an iconic and historic area of the Lowcountry.” Says Derek K. Robbins, President | CEO of Robbins Construction Group. “This project is transformative for the area and most importantly for the children that will now have access to what is truly going to be an extraordinary addition to the area.”

“Red Iron Architects is thrilled to be a part of the Park Circle project because it will have such a meaningful impact on our community. The new playground, ball field and community building will provide a center for recreation, education, culture, and events for the City of North Charleston. Mayor Summey’s commitment to expand recreational facilities for people of all abilities is admirable and Red Iron is proud to support this initiative.”

Red Iron Architects is underway with the design process and Robbins Construction Group is scheduled to mobilize May 2nd to commence demolition with project completion set for Summer 2023. Citizen of the Year – Boy Scouts of America Coastal Carolina Council

The Boy Scouts of America Coastal Carolina Council honored Derek K. Robbins, President and CEO of Robbins Construction Group, with its prestigious “Citizen of the Year” award in recognition of his outstanding leadership, commitment to youth development, and lasting contributions to the Scouting community.

A cornerstone of this recognition was Robbins' vision to establish Construction Explorer Post #3262, an innovative workforce development initiative designed to introduce young men and women to careers in the commercial construction industry. Under the leadership of Robbins Construction Group, the Explorer Post participated in an intensive eight-month program that provided hands-on exposure to every phase of the construction process. Participants gained practical experience in project planning, site layout, estimating, safety protocols, blueprint interpretation, scheduling, material procurement, and field construction techniques.

As the culmination of the program, the students successfully designed and constructed a storage building that was donated to the BSA Coastal Carolina Council for use at Camp Ho Non Wah on Wadmalaw Island. The project not only provided valuable real-world construction experience but also left a lasting contribution to one of the Council's most treasured camps, reinforcing the values of teamwork, craftsmanship, leadership, and community service.

Reflecting on the honor, Robbins stated:

"It is truly an honor to receive this recognition, but the real credit belongs to the dedicated volunteers and leaders of the Boy Scouts of America who selflessly invest countless hours mentoring and developing our youth. As the father of two Scouts—one of whom earned the rank of Eagle Scout—I have witnessed firsthand the tremendous impact Scouting has on building character, leadership, integrity, and a strong sense of service to others. The lessons learned through Scouting prepare young people not only for successful careers but, more importantly, for successful lives. It has been a privilege for Robbins Construction Group to partner with the Coastal Carolina Council and help inspire
